We’ve all heard the stories about how chiropractors “crack your back” to put your spine back in alignment — but the truth is chiropractic adjustments merely help guide the body — which puts itself back in alignment. That’s right, it’s your own body that actually does the healing!
As a practitioner of chiropractic for over 30 years Dr. Spencer knows just the right places where your body might need a little assistance. Sometimes it just takes a little nudge and sometimes it’s deep tissue pressure that’s needed. Either way, it’s best not to chance making your own adjustments by intentionally trying to “crack your back or neck” yourself as you could aggravate the situation by pushing yourself further out of alignment, or create an instability (too much movement).
Then there is the story that once you start seeing a chiropractor, you’ll need to continue seeing one. Maybe! Once you’ve felt the benefits and noticed when your body is misaligned, you’ll naturally want to get adjusted before discomfort arises. Just like you’d see a dentist or a medical doctor periodically, it’s the same with chiropractic care. After experiencing relief, it’s common to periodically visit a chiropractor to maintain your well-being.
As a reassurance you should know that you won’t be seen any more than your body requires. For some people, a maintenance plan might be monthly visits, for others every few months, a few times a year or annual.
At Spencer Chiropractic, if all you need is a simple adjustment, that’s all you will get. We don’t try to push any maintenance plan — it is up to you. You won’t be sold into a care package you really don’t need!
